My husband (Eugene) bought a 3-D printer a year ago and was mostly printing puzzles and games for kids. The puzzles were fun and you could not take a step through our house without encountering a 3D printed item. Everything was cozy, and then the world as we know it changed by the invisible, virulent and deadly COVID-19. After the initial shock, my husband sat down to investigate what can be done, from his words:
"On Friday March 27th watched Joel Telling's youtube video on how makers community is helping out [the COVID-19 pandemic management] by making Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers. Immediately joined masksfordocs.com Started printing right away. Saw a post on Mach 30th on masksfordocs slack channel that Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD ran out of face shields. Delivered 1st batch (30 shields) to Holy Cross on Mach 31st. The following Sunday, April 5th met the Physician Assistant (pictured above) who explained the front line situation; that very same night went to purchase another printer."
Currently 3 printers are fully operational ( the initial one pictured)
Objective is to make at least 1500 face shields [update] for local hospitals and workers
this is the 1st batch
If you'd like to help out, please contribute towards covering the costs of materials, parts and supplies to keep this operation going. All funds collected will be spent on making PPE for our healthcare workers.
