Support Emily's Battle Against Ovarian Cancer

Donation protected
I knew Emily and I would be fast friends when on our first day of college she accidentally pulled a projector screen off the wall. I was struck by how even in the face of embarrassment, she exhibited a kind and loving demeanor. Over nearly 30 years, I’ve watched her invest that love back into her community as she raised grants for field tips, organized fundraisers for hurricane victims, and mentored our next generation of educators. During this time we have become family–doubly so since our parents have passed on. I've witnessed her giving her all, day in and day out until she has nothing left for herself.

Now she needs our support in return as she battles a rare form of ovarian cancer.

Emily Forrest, known as "Mrs. Forrest" to the thousands of children she has taught, has spent nearly two decades as an art educator in Chicago Public Schools. She has poured her heart into teaching, inspiring young minds, and advocating for the students she cares so deeply about. Now, she is facing her biggest challenge yet: a battle with Ovarian Clear Cell Cancer.

A Teacher Who Has Given So Much

Emily is the kind of person who stops traffic to help a turtle cross the road. She once fed an entire family of neighborhood cats because she couldn’t bear to see them hungry. That same level of compassion and dedication extends to her students. Since 2006, she has taught art to Kindergarten through 8th graders on the South Side of Chicago, many of whom attend underfunded schools. She has personally purchased supplies, stayed late to support students, and secured over $100,000 in grants to enrich her classroom and community. She also mentors future educators, welcoming student teachers from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago each year, ensuring the next generation of teachers carries forward a passion for creative education.

Why We Need Your Help

Emily's diagnosis has turned her family's world upside down. While insurance will cover part of her treatment, the medical expenses will still be overwhelming. On top of that, Emily carries a significant burden of student loan debt limiting the financial flexibility her family needs to focus on treatment and recovery. With mounting medical bills and the reality of lost income during treatment, we are reaching out to our community for help.

How Your Donation Helps

Every dollar raised will go directly toward Emily’s medical expenses, covering chemotherapy, hospital stays, medications, and other essential treatments. Your support will help alleviate the financial stress on her family, allowing them to focus on what matters most—her healing and recovery.

It's Our Turn to Give Back

Emily has dedicated her life to helping others—her students, her colleagues, her family, and even the stray animals she encounters. Now, she needs our help. If you have ever had a teacher who made a difference in your life, please consider donating to support one who has done the same for so many.

Please share this fundraiser with your friends, family, and anyone who believes in supporting those who give selflessly to others.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
