Hi, my name is Heather. On the 6th December me and my 9 year old daughter Gemma went to see a pantomime in Kent. Afterwards we went to look around the shops. Gemma was shocked to see people sleeping rough. On the way home she couldn't stop thinking about the homeless people we had seen and asked if she could do some to help them. She decided to put some gift bags together, so as a family we all helped her to fill them with snacks, treats,drinks,toiletries and gloves. On 20th December we went back with my older daughter Chloe to hand them out. The first person we met was Jim, sitting in the doorway of a disused shop. He couldn't have been more grateful to receive his bag. When we had finished handing them all out we couldn't stop thinking about Jim. Chloe wanted to do more to help him ,so we went back to have a chat with him. Chloe suggested we set up a gofundme page and asked if he would mind telling us a bit about himself. He told us that he was born and raised in Gravesend. He moved to Israel and worked in a pub. When his visa expired he was deported back to the UK. He has been homeless for a few years now. He gave us his phone number but said he can't reply to any texts as he doesn't usually have credit. We would like to raise some money to help him have a better start to 2026. We know times are hard but if you can give anything we would really appreciate it, if not please share. As we drove home to our warm houses and families we couldn't help thinking of Jim in that doorway in the middle of December.
