Alejandra Martinez Memorial Fund

Cal Family & Friends,

On December 21st, 2015, UC Berkeley junior, Alejandra Martinez died in an accident on her way home in South Gate, CA. She was 20 years old. 

You may think that you don't know Alejandra Martinez personally but you knew her because she lives in every young woman who overcame insurmountable odds to be a first-generation college student. You know Alejandra because you went to Cal and know, first-hand, the struggles that minority students face. You know Alejandra because you too sought out support in groups like, TRENZA and other Chicano/Latino orgs, that provided you with a safe space and friends you now call family. You know Alejandra because you drove that stretch of Hwy 5 down to Southern California to see the family during the holiday breaks. You know Alejandra because you understand and appreciate the sacrifice that your family made to see you succeed at UC Berkeley. You know Alejandra because you understand that we are the sum of our entire community and you know that nothing is ever achieved alone.

Please consider donating $20 or more to help her grieving family pay for the unexpected funeral expenses. 

We surpassed our initial $500 goal in less than 24 hours on Jan 4th and now our goal is to raise $5,000 by January 8th, so we can get her family the funds as soon as possible - they still have not scheduled a funeral due to the holidays and lack of funds.
