Our dear friend Kelly Diaz was diagnosed with Breast Cancer earlier this summer.
Kelly went in for her very first mammogram where they found a small mass. After the biopsy, she was diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer. She was given an optimistic prognosis and was told it was the “best kind to have”. It would require surgery to remove the mass then a fairly straight-forward recovery plan.
Unfortunately, during the surgery to remove the mass, Doctors discovered that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes and 10 more microscopic tumors were found. Once pathology came back, her diagnosis was changed to Stage 2b Breast Cancer that was macro metastatic. This led to surgery #2 on July 14th to have her breast removed.
Surgery #2 was successful, and she was considered cancer-free with next steps to move into rounds of chemotherapy. However, during the removal of her drains from surgery #2 they discovered that an infection had set in and she would need a third surgery to clean up the infection!
Finally, on August 10th after Surgery #3 and clearing the infection, she started chemotherapy. Although the last 8+ weeks have been rough on her, taking a toll both physically and mentally, her optimism and strength have shown through it all!
Kelly is hands down, one of the BEST people you will ever meet. She is an amazing wife, mother of 3, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. How she loves her family, her zest for life, infectious laughter, her wit, gentle spirit, gratitude, and creativity are just a few of the reasons we love her so much.
Kelly has a long road ahead of her with mounting medical bills. If you are able to donate anything to help ease their financial burden, it would be greatly appreciated. If not, your thoughts and prayers are just powerful! Thank you for any support!
