Help Our Dad Get a Life-Saving Kidney Transplant
Hi everyone,
We’re reaching out as a family — the children of John Gillett — to ask for your help in giving our dad a second chance at life.
In 2023, our dad began dialysis due to stage 5 kidney failure. Since then, he’s been bravely working through the long and challenging process of getting approved for a kidney transplant. After many medical roadblocks, we’re finally close to receiving that approval — and now, we need your help more than ever.
Why We’re Asking for $50,000
The transplant itself is only part of the journey. The total cost is beyond overwhelming for our family and goes far beyond just the medical procedure. Our dad will be receiving his transplant in Toledo, Ohio, while we live in Michigan, meaning we’ll have to travel frequently and stay near the hospital for an extended period.
Your generous donations will help cover:
Lodging near the hospital (weeks to months)
Meals while away from home
Fuel and travel costs for numerous appointments
Out-of-pocket medical expenses & co-pays
Post-surgery medications and supplies
Items to keep him comfortable and mentally engaged during recovery (art supplies, books, etc.)
Our dad's doctor even encouraged us to start this GoFundMe as soon as possible, emphasizing how expensive and extensive this journey is going to be and how quick it is approaching.
About Our Dad
Our dad is more than just our hero — he’s a pillar in the community. He’s coached youth sports for many years and is well known for always being there for kids on and off the field. He’s a proud father, grandfather, brother, and friend who is loved by so many.
He’s always enjoyed the outdoors — hunting, fishing, and spending quality time with family and friends. He has a deep love for art and creativity, and he lights up every room with his stories and conversations. Sports like softball and basketball used to be regular parts of his life, but kidney failure has made these joys impossible.
A new kidney would change all of that. It wouldn’t just extend his life — it would give him back the life he used to live, the things he loves, and more time with the people who love him.
How You Can Help ❤️
Even if you can only give $5, it makes a real difference. Just skipping one coffee could help save a life. And if you can’t donate right now, please share this with your friends, coworkers, and on social media. Every share helps us get closer to our goal.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support. It means more than we can express.
With love,
The Gillett Kids
