Diagnosed in December 2019 with Colon Cancer, urgent surgery for colostomy bag within days, completed intravenous chemotherapy and then started radiation and oral chemotherapy treatment in July 2020. Now waiting with bated breath for laparoscopy/colonoscopy and MRI, CT and PET scan results to get the final go-ahead for Pelvic exenteration surgery.
Pelvic exenteration is a radical surgical treatment that removes all organs from a person's pelvic cavity. The urinary bladder, urethra, rectum, and anus are removed. The procedure leaves the person with a permanent colostomy and urinary diversion.
When you think you are young, happy, settled with your family, when work-life balance is getting sorted, when the kids are fit and healthy and don't have a care in the world and when your friends are the simply the best, along comes the BIG 'C'.
Knowing something might be wrong with you and going to the doctors for a check-up, to getting a life sentence because of COLON CANCER, is a very surreal experience.
This is what happened to our friend Sarah King and the flow-on effect to her husband Adam and children was devastatingly life-changing.
This amazing young family have had their world torn apart emotionally and financially. They have had to cover the mounting unexpected medical costs for specialist consultations, numerous MRI, CT and PET scans, travel and parking fees, counselling sessions and prescription medication.
The recovery time from the upcoming surgery is extensive and Adam, after exhausting his leave, may have to take leave without pay to support Sarah in her recovery.
These medical expenses, now at $10k, are quickly emptying out their savings accounts and will leave behind debts that will last for years.
Sarah and Adam would never ask for the help of this kind, but they are both so kind-hearted that they would do anything for anyone.
The entire KING family are well-known participants and volunteers in the baseball community, which means it is time for the greater baseball community and others to get behind this incredible family.
Your contribution, no matter how little, will be so greatly appreciated.
Let’s help Sarah and Adam conquer their mounting medical expenses so that Sarah can focus on getting well !!
