On February 19, 2017 Nathan Washington was injured in a terrible car accident. He was a passenger in the back seat when the driver hit a tree. Nathan suffered fractures to his cervical spine and a severe injury to his cervical spinal cord. He was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Hospital where neurosurgeons performed surgery to fuse and stabilize his anterior cervical spine on Feb 19 and on Feb 20 Nathan had to again undergo surgery to fuse and stabilize his posterior spine as well as clear a blood clot that developed in his brain. Both surgeries lasted over 7 hours and Nathan was able to tolerate them. Currently, he is healing but is now paralyzed and unable to feel or move his lower body from the chest down from the car accident breaking his spine and neck. He can lift his arms and feel them but he also lost ability to move his fingers fully and use them. The doctors are hoping for recovery, but they say the extent is difficult to predict. Nathan also received a tracheostomy so that he could continue to use the ventilator while he regained the strength to breath on his own. We are thankful that as of mid-March he can now breath own his own and eat solid foods.
Nathan Washington is 21 years old and the son to my dear friends Karen and Nate Washington. They have a total of 4 beautiful and loving children whom they support daily, and they are working on preparing to bring Nathan home from the new rehabilitation facility he is at called University of Maryland Rehabilitation (Keenan) next week. In order to prepare and care for their son, in his new state of becoming disabled, I am leading this campaign to assist the Washington's in raising $20,000 to (1) create a disabled ready living area in their home, (2) obtain funds to provide continued medical assistance and care for Nathan; including several medications that he will need to keep living and heal, and (3) for many months of needed therapy in hopes to help Nathan regain feeling in his lower body and walk again.
As you can imagine, this accident was an unforeseen event and the family would greatly appreciate any donations to this campaign for Nathans Medical Funds. Please consider donating any amount to help assist and bless this family. Even if it's $5.00 it will make a profound difference in their situation and help them care for Nathan and assist with his medical needs as its going to be a long process. They have used their health insurance to the fullest extent over the past 2 months and now face all of this without additional funds.
Also, the family and I ask that you please keep Nathan in prayer for full recovery and ability to feel his body and walk again. Thank you for your consideration and reach out to me if you have any questions or need additional information. God bless.
