Help save Tobi, who needs a life saving operation

We are reaching out to you for help to save our beautiful and brave dog Tobi Bear Blue who needs a life-saving operation.

Tobi's Story

In Romania, when Tobi was only about 8 months old, he was alone on the streets trying to survive when he was hit by a vehicle and suffered a terrible injury to his front left leg. Weeks later, he was found by a local dog rescue with his front left leg literally hanging off. He must have been in so much pain, but he had somehow managed to survive on the streets despite his catastrophic injuries. They immediately took Tobi to a vet where it was decided that his leg was so badly injured that it had to be amputated.

Tobi spent the next several months recovering in a Romanian dog’s home. This is where we came into his life and he into ours. We wanted to give this brave dog a chance of a happy new life with us in England.

On 26 July 2023, after almost 3 long days on a van travelling across Europe, where he had to remain in a small crate, he arrived in England, and we picked him up. It was an amazing day for us. Unfortunately, when we bought him home, we realised very quickly that Tobi had a serious problem with his rear left leg as well and he was limping very badly on it.

We took him to see our vet who carried out x-rays and our worst fears were confirmed; his rear left leg had also been smashed and broken at the same time that he was hit by the vehicle in Romania. During the weeks in between being hit by the vehicle and us adopting Tobi the bones had fused in his leg in a distorted and twisted way which would have caused him great pain. We had been unaware of this when we adopted Tobi and we later found out that x-rays of his other limbs had not been carried out even though his front leg was amputated.

Who is Tobi?

On the day we met Tobi for the first time we decided to create an Instagram page to diarise his journey @tobibearblue. Please take a look and you will see why we love this handsome boy so much. Tobi is an amazing Romanian mountain dog. He is cheeky, intelligent, and affectionate. He loves cuddles, his food and a fuss being made of him. On walks he tries very hard to keep up with our other dogs but it’s now getting too painful and exhausting for him. He only manages to walk/limp for about 10 metres at a time before needing a rest, but he loves to come along when we walk our other dogs. He has two special doggy friends on his walk (Monty and Charlie) who he loves to see and he will cry and sulk a little if he doesn’t see them! Despite the sad and tragic start to his life, Tobi is an inspiration to us as he shows amazing strength, determination and a simple joy of being alive, every single day.

What does Tobi need?

Tobi has been on lots of pain killers for the last 12 months to manage his injuries, but he has reached a stage where he can hardly walk or stand because of his condition and the pain is getting worse. Other than his seriously deformed rear left leg and hip, Tobi is a healthy and beautiful two year old dog, who has somehow got this far in life, and so he deserves the chance of a happier, pain free future. But to give him this chance he needs a very serious operation that will cost about £25,000. This is due to the fact that a new implant will have to be designed especially for Tobi and he also needs a complete hip replacement to take care of the serious osteoarthritis in his joints that give him so much pain. Unfortunately none of the medical care required for his rear left leg is covered by his pet insurance, as it is deemed a pre-existing condition.

Why We Need Your Help

Without this life saving and life changing operation to Tobi’s rear left leg, he would have no chance of a future and would have to be put down in the coming weeks or months as he will simply not be able to stand or walk. But Tobi has come this far and so we believe he deserves this opportunity of a healthy and happier future. The funds raised will be used for Tobi’s operation to his rear left leg, as well as ongoing medicine and aftercare whilst he recovers.
