Hello, my name is Simon Jameson from Dublin, Ireland.
I am 38 years old, and I suffer with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Because of the progression of my condition, I am now working to fulfil a lifelong dream while I still can.
I have one big wish: one final great adventure.
I want to bring a childhood fantasy to life.
I would very much like to visit Egypt — the land of some of the greatest wonders and one of the most famous ancient civilisations in history.
I have been fascinated by Ancient Egypt for as long as I can remember, but due to my disability, a journey like this has always felt out of reach. Over the past three years, I have made it my end-of-life goal to change that and work towards making it possible.
Because of my medical needs and care requirements, this trip must be done in a carefully adapted and cost-efficient way.
My plan is to travel from Alexandria down to Aswan and back, visiting major ancient sites such as the Great Pyramids of Giza, and the temples of Karnak and Luxor, among others.
The journey is planned over 4–5 weeks and will require specialised equipment to be shipped to Egypt from the UK, including my all-terrain wheelchair and my adapted van.
For full transparency, here is a breakdown of estimated costs:
* Van and cargo shipping (UK to Egypt): €2,000
* Egyptian driver for 4–5 weeks: €3,000
* Fuel: €2,000
* Flights for myself and care staff: €3,000
* Accommodation for me and care staff: €2,500
* Food and toys for children in need: €1,000
* Emergency costs and breakdowns: €1,500
Total: €15,000
If this journey becomes possible, I also make a pledge:
I will dedicate at least €1,000 to personally spend time in poverty-affected areas of Cairo over two days, giving food and toys to children in need.
I will document every stage of this journey, including preparations and costs, with full transparency.
Whether you choose to donate or simply share my story, I invite you to be part of this adventure — a journey through history, wonder, and determination.
Thank you very much for your time and kindness.
Yours sincerely,
Simon
