Help support Paramedic Mel Bradway

Hi everyone,

We are the Centenary Station Ambulance Team. We are a small Station in comparison to others in Brisbane and as a consequence have a close bond with each other.

On the morning of the 1st of October this year a valued member of our Station family had her life turned upside down in the blink of an eye. Melissa ‘Mel’ Bradway, had a stroke after going home early on a nightshift. Mel has been an Advanced Care Paramedic at Centenary Station since her career began 12years ago. Mel is 48 years young, a mother of 4 older children and the family breadwinner. Mel loves being a Paramedic and her gentle touch, calming voice and highly tuned clinical skills have impacted on the lives of many patients and their significant others over the years. For the past 12 years Mel has worked 10 to 12+ hour shifts, at times missing out on family Christmas and birthday celebrations to serve the community when they are in need and at their most vulnerable. It is common knowledge that Mel lives to deliver babies in this job!! Mel delivered her last baby 5mths before she was devastated by her stroke. 

Diagnosed as having a significant bleed, Mel thankfully is back home.  While Mel is up and walking around, she suffers regular debilitating headaches and continues to experience impactful cognitive, expressive speech and chronic fatigue issues. Mel’s recovery will be long and while unable to work, the ability to provide for her family and the ongoing rehab expenses have now become an enormous obstacle.

What the donations will go towards:
- Ongoing expensive rehab fees
- Providing for her family needs
- Retraining and re-education expenses for future employment
