Help Valia raise money for Aphasia Re-Connect
Hi,
On October 9th, I will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise money for Aphasia Re-Connect , - a charity working hard to rebuild the lives of people with aphasia by bringing them together and creating opportunities to re-engage with life.
Aphasia is a life-changing communication disorder resulting from damage to the language centres of the brain, with stroke being its leading cause. Robbed of one of the most fundamental human faculties, it is difficult to find or follow the words in speech, reading, and writing.
Knowing many people with aphasia and their personal stories as a clinician and researcher, I feel the need to support them in every possible way. People I have worked with repeatedly expressed their frustration of not being able to put their thoughts into words, feeling unheard, lonely, and isolated.
Aphasia Re-Connect helps the voices of those people to be heard. It helps bring hope, opportunity, and enjoyment to those living with aphasia and their loved ones.
Every 15 minutes someone acquires aphasia. If you believe in this cause, please support me in this challenge by donating to Aphasia Re-Connect. With your contribution, we can make a difference in many people’s lives.
Thank you,
Valia
