Help Isaac beat Leukemia

As many of you know, on Thursday, September 8th Isaac wrecked his truck, and after some testing, they found out that he has Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. Not curable, but very treatable. He will have this for the remainder of his life and have to take a form of chemo daily. It would eventually hopefully go into remission. After two years of remission, some studies are showing treatment could be stopped until the cancer activated again, and then treatment would begin again. We are told this is leukemia that you want to have if you have it. He would require no pump or pic line, just oral medications.

Issac and Erica have a long road of head them, traveling to Morgantown for testing and getting the medication that he will need. They will also have costs with gas and food that weren't being planned for. Erica says that god has a plan, and he will provide it, but I know many people are asking for what they can do to help, so we wanted to put this out there for the community to help as well. Erica is aware of the go-fund-me that has been set up, and Kelli Shallcross and I are working directly with Erica on this. All funds raised will be sent directly to the family.

Update from Sunday 9/11/2022

Sunday afternoon update: I don’t know how they did it but his doctors got a preliminary report out of the lab on a Sunday. He is positive for CML. If we have to have leukemia, this is the one we were rooting for. He will start to transition over to the new chemo pill this afternoon. If he tolerates it well, his numbers play nice, and my insurance cooperates he could be home in 2-3 days. He will have this treatment daily for the rest of his life and can never miss a dose, but he should go into and stay in remission. There will be roller coaster weeks, but he just got the all clear that if his platelets stay high and behave he will be able to have a normal senior year and can go to school soon, go to homecoming and RETURN TO FOOTBALL. There may be weeks when his numbers are low or he feels bad that he can’t but we will know. He will be monitored weekly for quite some time but will eventually go to monthly visits and then every 3 months. I’m still a little nervous but they told me I can’t hold him back and I have to let him live as close to a normal life as possible. I said, “Trust me he will have it no other way.” He will still have to finish testing for Miniere’s because they still believe he could have both. It will be imperative that he stay up on all his other treatments for heterotaxy, polysplenia and hypogammunoglobulemia as one treatment won’t fix the other so we will be working closely with both oncology and his general practitioner to make sure meds don’t conflict. Doctors words were no one wants cancer, but this is good news. Thank you for the continued prayers.
