Officer Mike Thomas, of the Shelburne Police Department, has recently been diagnosed with Leukemia. He has been through the first stages of treatment and is doing well. With this being said he still has a long road in front of him. Currently treatment is occurring at the University Of Vermont Medical Center as well as the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center.

 Mike Thomas is more then a friend.  He is a co-worker, husband, father, grandfather, and most of all he is family.  Mike has a heart of gold and has always been there for others.  Not only other people, but for our four legged friends.  Before Mike got sick he was a foster for dogs and worked with Potter’s Angle’s.  I have never seen Mike become more excited then when a new dog was on its way to his home.  He has the patients of a saint with these animals who in previous lives were abused or abandoned.  Mike brings the same attitude to his work as a police officer.  He is attentive and compassionate and does his very best to make sure he serves the community with the highest levels of professionalism imaginable.

 Mike is entering the next phases of his recovery.  In the near future he will be spending a month in Boston at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center.  While he does have medical insurance through the Town of Shelburne, there is no coverage to make sure his family can travel to Boston on a regular basis to see him.  The hope is to raise enough money to assist with travel expenses for his family.  The money will also be used to assist with the unknown and unforeseen bills as he recuperates from Leukemia.
