In 2004-2005, I had the honor and privilege of Commanding Task Force DRAGOON, deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Task Force, formed around Headquarters,
1st Battalion, 103rd Armor Regiment,
28th Infantry Division, Pennsylvania Army
National Guard was the first Battalion of the
28th ID deployed for combat operations since
World War II. In Iraq, the Task Force would grow to over 800 Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen, earning the Meritorious Unit Citation while conducting
combat operations in northern Salah ad Din Province. Sadly, there was a cost: 13 Dragoons
were Killed in Action (KIA) during that year.
Veterans of Task Force Dragoon have come
together for a new Mission: forming a committee to place a memorial to those 13 fallen brothers
at the Pennsylvania Military Museum, Boalsburg PA. This monument will honor the 13 Task Force Dragoon troopers who fell supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom III (2004-2005), and recognize the many units who made up our Task Force.
In recent months, this noble endeavor has gained great momentum. We believe it is simply right to honor them. Thus far, the committee have secured several cost estimates, approved a design and have begun fund-raising efforts to raise
the $40,000 necessary to complete the Mission. However, I need your assistance to get us onto
the Objective.
Please, consider joining our team with a
contribution. Any amount is appreciated.
Our goal is to complete construction of the
memorial in early 2023 with a dedication at the annual 28th Infantry Division Boalsburg Ceremony in May 2023.
If you cannot give but still wish to support our Mission, please share this with friends, family members and coworkers. With more people aware of our cause, we will be one step closer to the Objective.
The Task Force Dragoon Memorial Committee
and I thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
