Texter Covid-19 Survivor

Gary Texter has been deeply impacted by COVID-19. A selfless man who has
given his life to help others in need. Gary was first diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 28 and was transported by ambulance on March 30, and was put on a ventilator April 3.
Fast forward to present day he has been dealing with COVID's after effects. It attacked his lungs, kidneys, gallbladder and thyroid. He also battled pneumonia and several infections. He has nerve and muscle damage, blood pressure issues as well as heart rate issues. When he couldn't wake up from his medically induced coma, he was transferred to Albany Medical and was diagnosed with COVID encephalitis of the brain and spinal cord on May 21st. He's had a tracheotomy, feeding tube, a drain to his gallbladder. He's lost 40% of his muscle and had a paralyzed vocal cord as well. He was in the ICU for over 90 days after all was said and done.
His progress is slow. On day 74 he became alert and started to move his extremities. Day 103 he was transferred to Friedwald in New City for sub-acute rehabilitation. Day 125 (August 1st)he had his first shower. On day 170 he started to tolerate food after passing a swallow test after many attempts. He was also weaned off the trach and stood up with assistance for the first time since March. On day 198 everything but his feeding tube was removed. He no longer needs dialysis or a surgery to remove his gallbladder. October 1st he turned 69 and celebrated with an interview by News 12 about his miraculous recovery. And just days before this interview took place his trach was removed, he is now breathing on his own.
Now 210 plus days after being hospitalized with COVID, transfers to several hospitals, planning his funeral, and now in his first of two rehab facilities; he needs help. Because Medicare will no longer will cover his stay at his present facility, Gary and Beth have to pay until he's transferred to his next rehab. Now I know times are tough on everyone, but this couple needs our help. Every little bit helps. He is a miracle and we don't want him to worry about finances while working towards his goal of coming home. Thank you for taking time to read his story. And PLEASE stay safe and healthy.
