Textbook and Resources for my AP Government Class
Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,
As you know, teaching is my passion. It is the reason why I left law, and the reason why I write to you today.
I need your help. Specifically, I need your help buying 40 government textbooks and a one year online subscription to a test prep resource called albert.io for my Advanced Placement (AP) class. Students take their AP exam on May 4, 2020, which means I have one month to make this happen.
I am a teacher at a small charter school in Santa Ana, California. The mission of the school is to ensure that 100% of our graduates are accepted into a 4-year college or university, which is especially significant given that many of the students at my school are first-generation college-bound students from educationally underserved communities (96% are Hispanic and 74% are eligible for free or reduced lunch).
As a government teacher, I'm always telling my students that they have power - the power to effect change in themselves, their community and their world.
I believe this, which is why I am reaching out today and asking you to do for my students what I hope they will one day do for themselves and others.
My students are bright. They are committed. They want to go to college and they want the opportunity to succeed.
Believe me, if you knew them, you would see what I see. You would see how hard they are working. How committed they are. How possible this is for them.
Again, thank you for reading this message. Please make a donation for whatever amount you can and pass this along to as many people as you can. Together, we can.
Sincerely,
Maria
