The Barking Mad Animal Rescue bus FULL of rescued dogs was on it's way from Hemphill TX to New Brunswick Canada when the transmission went out in North Haven Connecticut on Thursday, Nov 3rd. The bus won't be working again until a new transmission arrives on Thursday.
The driver and handler remain on the bus full time to care for the dogs while arrangements are made to get them safely to their destinations and into the arms of their waiting families!
The BMAR team routinely takes 80+ dogs from Texas to Canada in a two bus run every 5 weeks. This 6000 mile round trip starts on a Sunday with final destination to adopters arriving on Friday. Once the bus cranks up, it is never turned off until the dogs arrive safely for climate control. Nor is it ever left unattended. This is a monumental effort that takes two buses and two teams of dedicated rescuers.
Our buses are old and used hard. Each bus is serviced and inspected after every run. These kind of breakdowns are unexpected and a financial hardship on the rescue. This type of financial loss for the rescue could cost many canine live for future runs.
The solution is a new bus....but at a cost of $170,000 that will never be in a rural rescue's reach. With over 1000 dog lives saved and exported every year....what value would we put on their lives?
BMAR hopes that you will join in on our rescue efforts. We take the voiceless, the maimed, the ill, the injured, the dogs nobody wants and we make them well to find that perfect family and new life for them. Join us.....Donate to our bus woes and help the mission continue.
