Texas Mexican Food Stories

We will complete the final edit of a 75-minute documentary feature film, "Texas Mexican Food Stories."
Final storyboard, Transitions, Animation, Digital Graphics, Color correction, Sound and Music Scoring.

The film engages cooks, scholars, artists and activists as each tells how food shapes who they are. Styled as a “road movie,” it is shot across Texas cities, including Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, McAllen, Harlingen, ending aboard a small boat on the waters of the Rio Grande. Foregrounding the leadership of Mexican American women, the scenes of cooking, baking, singing, feasting and barbecuing, all show that food is key in the formation of identity and the strengthening of community.

History tells us that  "comida casera," home cooking of Mexican American women, holds the culinary tradition that begins 15,000 years ago when our indigenous ancestors first stepped on Texas soil.

Over time and during conquest, Texas Mexican food has sustained the memory of who we are and has nourished our family and community ties.  But most of all, it has strengthened our spirit to look forward and keep laboring for justice and hospitality, for building a table where ALL are welcome.

The first rough edit is finished and now we will complete the final edit, including music and graphic design. We are gathering our resources, plans, and we start the final edit on February 18th.
