Welcome to Loving Luna , a place to celebrate and support Luna Joy McIntosh.

Added a few updates below for those of you who are curious how Luna's surgery and recovery are going. Thanks for all your support thus far!

THE FIGHT
On 10/02/19 Charlotte (Mom), Zach (Dad), and Zane (big brother) McIntosh welcomed Luna into the world, an adorable 6lb 6oz bundle of light.  Unfortunately, shortly after her birth, Charlotte and Zach discovered their little one had a heart defect. Luna was diagnosed with Coarctation of the Aorta, in laymen’s terms it is a life threatening constriction of the aorta and bad news.

THE GOOD NEWS
After both lungs collapsed and losing 2 lbs, Luna has been transferred to Orlando Hospital where she underwent heart surgery on 10/6/19 to fix her aorta. It was an incredibly tight squeeze but the doctors were very thankfully able to mend almost everything after two back to back surgeries.  Luna's recovery has been going very well so far and she even got to go home for the first time since she was born recently. She's truly one incredible baby.

THE ROAD TO RECOVERY
After the initial repair, surgeons discovered another hole that connects two of Luna's Heart Chambers (this kind is called ASD). The good news is that this hole in her heart is not as scary as the initial issue. Since she is so small and they would have had to open her chest which is not preferred they will just be watching the hole. Sometimes they close as children grow (she has a 60% chance of that). If it doesn't close up or it starts to become a problem they will need to close it, depending on how it looks that could be in the Cath Lab or it could be as involved as opening her chest but that will be a bridge we will cross if/when we get there (we should have a better idea around the age of 2 if all goes well). Meanwhile, Luna will continue being monitored very closely as she recovers from her initial surgeries. She's doing great through it all.

SUPPORT
For those of you who want to lend a helping hand from afar (like me), please consider donating to help support Luna and her family as they embark on this long road to recovery. Donations will help cover part of Luna's medical expenses that Zach and Charlotte incurred during her two surgeries. While donations are very much appreciated, they are by no means necessary. My sister and her entire family are incredible grateful for the words of encouragement, support, and love through this time. Thank you for being wonderful humans <3

All my love,
Davielle (Charlotte's little sister)
