KOKODA CHALLENGE

Donation protected
My dad died of brain cancer in 2014 when I was 14.

In April this year, I am participating in a Kokoda Challenge with AFP Legacy.  My Dad was a cop, and AFP Legacy have looked out for my mum, my sisters, and I (and others in similar circumstances) since Dad died.  They do this for the families of all members who die, on or off the job, and work to perpetuate the memories of these officers.  They've been awesome.

In fundraising for Kokoda, I want to recognise the organisation that supports me, and is facilitating this great opportunity for me, and the organisation that is working hard in the fight against brain cancer, the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation (the Foundation).

Brain cancer kills more people under 40 than any other cancer, and more children than any other disease. Founded by Dr Charlie Teo in 2001, the Foundation is the peak organisation for brain cancer research, advocacy and awarenss in Australia.  The aim of the organisation is to improve the outcomes achieved for brain cancer sufferers, so that brain cancer achieves the same advances other cancers like breast and blood have experienced through putting the focus on them and raising funds to put into research.

All money raised through this page will be divided equally between AFP Legacy and the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.

So, why do my efforts deserve you charity dollars?  Good question.  The Kokoda track is 96 kms long.  It is a single file track from just outside Port Moresby through the Owen Stanley Rages to Kokoda.  The track crosses some of the most rugged and isolated terrain in the world, reaches 2250m at Mount Bellamy and combines hot humid days with intensely cold nights, torrential rainfall and endemic tropical diseases such as malaria.

This is going to be hard core.  I'm pretty fit, I ride my bike to and from school (30km round trip) and play a lot of sport.  But I have never so much as gone on a signiciant bush walk before, so this is going to be a huge physical and mental challenge.  I'm also going to carry my own pack.

On top of all that, if I raise $10k, I will SHAVE MY HEAD.  Yep, I'm 17, and looks wise I could be prettier, but I do have long, thick, curly hair.  I'm in Year 12 this year and will have a formal at the end of the year that I'd rather have hair for, but I'm willing to shave it all off to help these great causes.

We leave Australia for PNG on 16 April, so I would say that the cut off day to get me over the line to shave my head would be 14 April, but you can of course continue to donate past this day until we return on the 27th of April.  So if you want to see me bald, donate before 14 April, because if I make it out of the jungle with my hair intact, I'm keeping it :)

Please help me raise money for these very worthy charities.  It will give you and potentially many others a warm and fuzzy feeling.  You'll be paying it forward, doing good deeds, creating good karma and for that the universe will smile on you.

Thanks in anticipation.
