Tessa and Cory's medical fund

Donation protected
In 2011 Cory was diagnosed with kidney failure. The diagnosis was grim and at 29 years old, almost impossible to believe. After a series of long tests, Cory’s girlfriend (now wife) was approved to donate her kidney. She was a perfect match. After 5 months of dating, science told Tessa and Cory what they already knew – they were perfect for each other. In 2012 Tessa donated her kidney to Cory. The surgery was not without complications but Tessa’s tiny kidney was transplanted successfully into her fiancées body.

Fast forward to late 2015. After years of health and happiness Cory fell sick again. He stopped going to work and what was more alarming, he was no longer able to coach the basketball team that he cared so deeply for. This month Cory has started dialysis again while he waits for a new donor. He has an Uncle Curt who is a very good match, he is currently undergoing the tests to see if he is a match. If Curt is a match the surgery could potentially take place in 6-9 months. Until then Cory and Tessa are in training and treatment to do dialysis at home. This has prevented Cory from going to work full time and missing out of wages, thankfully he is able to take family medical leave but that is not compensated. He goes to work at 4:30 in the morning, leaves early to go to treatment with Tessa and they don’t usually get home until 7:30pm. After treatment is finished they will have supplies piled up to the ceiling in their small house in order for Cory to be able to do dialysis at home.

As you can imagine, one transplant surgery is hard enough on a young newly married couple. They are now staring down the necessary and terrifying debt barrel that is a second transplant surgery. This will be their SECOND surgery totaling six figures.

These two are so lucky to have jobs that are accommodating to their situation and while Cory is having to take medical leave it isn’t paid. Tessa can work from home but as you can imagine it’s not enough. These two amazing people really need our help. They deserve a life free from all of this and hopefully this second kidney will do the trick. I am pleading with everyone to show them that they are not alone.

The funds would go towards:

- Car repairs and maintenance due to the amount of transportation they are doing back and forth to dialysis, UW, etc.

- Medical bills from the 2012 surgery as well as the 100+ appointments Cory and Tessa have had in the 3 years they have dealt with this

- Preparing for the next surgery and paying for the ER visit in November when Cory fell ill

- Transportation expenses for Curt if he is a match and will need several trips back and for from Nevada pre and post op
