I'm Terry Stingley. My wife, our dog Shanti, and I have been living in Kalamazoo, MI for the last 10 years. Some of you may have heard me on WKZO radio or around town as "The Wine Guru" or may have taken a Yoga class with me. You may even be one of the hundreds of couples that Reverend Tami and I have married over the last ten years in southwest Michigan. I used to reside in New Orleans and I met my best friend, my wife, in Cleveland.
I was diagnosed with Lymphoma. A recent aggresive growth spurt has increased the tumor on the side of my left ear since my biopsy, and it has grown extremely large to the size of a softball, covering my ear to the point where I can no longer hear out of it. It is an inoperable tumor because of the location, and danger to the carotid artery. Radiation, the standard treatment, would severely damage the surrounding tissue and effect my quality of life.
This recent turn of events has led me to an integrative clinic in Phoenix that goes aggressively after the cancer's STEM CELLS. Immuno-oncology therapies and targeted cancer treatment (IPT) represent a breakthrough in cancer therapy that have the potential to revolutionise the way we treat many forms of cancer.
This cutting-edge treatment is costly, and although some insurance companies are covering much of the cost, our Blue Care network is not at this time.
The initial 5 or 6 week program that gives me the best chance to defeat this is around $35,000 USD. We are currently using credit cards to fund what we can...but that is a very finite resource.
I am a 10 year veteran. We own our home in the Oakwood neighborhood, and have some equity in it. But because I work a straight commission job in wine sales (which means that while I am away fighting cancer, my income has diminished significantly...leaving Tami to juggle all those things that used to be handled by the two of us.) The bank has seen fit to deny our home equity loan for this treatment.
So we're in a tough spot and need funds quickly, as I have to pay as I go. No pay. No play. The American way.
The video I posted on FB this morning offers an observation of the absolute crisis that middle class Americans face every day with their healthcare. Especially cancer, which even if you have "decent" insurance like we do, you may STILL wind up at least $100,000.00 out of pocket and bankrupt before it's over. (Our friend who has throat cancer spent $200,000 out of pocket...with excellent insurance)
The clinic I am attending (EuroMed Clinic http://www.euro-med.us ) doesn't like to settle for sending cancer into remission. They TERMINATE the stem cells of cancer. Immuno-oncology therapies activate our immune system, making it able to recognise cancer cells and destroy them. I would very much like the opportunity for them to terminate mine. For that to happen, we need your help.
We sincerely appreciate anything you can do. And we look very much forward to the opportunity to pay it forward when we can...in more ways than one.
I am also a published author and speaker. The plan is to write a "different kind of cancer book", to share not only the experiences and obstacles common to cancer patients worldwide, but also to emphasize that cancer is very much a spiritual journey and can, from an elevated perspective, be seen as a true "blessing in disguise".
There is a consciousness that is rising where such matters are concerned. Through this humbling experience, I hope to be a part of that expansion.
