Hurricane Relief: Help Terry & Charlotte Putnam Rebuild

Donation protected
This is Melanie Sutton Snare. I am from beautiful Western NC and grew up in Waynesville, NC. Sadly, my hometown and surrounding areas are experiencing total devastation – it’s heartbreaking beyond belief and looks like a war zone. Please pray for everyone and continue to support this area for the coming months and years as they rebuild!

I am crushed to share that my Uncle – Terry Putnam - (my Mom - Rosemary Sutton's brother) and my Aunt Charlotte’s home was flooded during Hurricane Helene. They are pictured here still smiling covered in mud as they pull all of their belongings out of their home to move to the street for trash. Wow, right? How amazing are they?

Their home is on Smathers Street in Waynesville, NC in the Frog Level area and was once my grandparent’s home (my favorite place and people) and it has never flooded in well over 100 years – probably ever. It’s unimaginable. So, they sadly don’t have flood insurance and they have lost so much. NO HELP!

All of their furniture, appliances, fridge, washer, dryer, stove, floors, sheetrock walls - all of it needs replaced. They are unable to live in their home at this time.

Uncle Terry is a retired factory worker - he is a very hard working, good, honest kind man who spent many years working at the Champion Paper Mill. But now retired with no income coming in and no flood insurance to cover their loss - they are in a really tough place. It’s truly heartbreaking and I want to HELP them get started toward rebuilding their home and life! And I would LOVE YOUR HELP!

So, if you are called to help someone in need – please consider donating to help my Uncle and Aunt. We would all be so very grateful! Even just a few dollars helps – 100% of it will be given to them. And if we exceed what they need – 100% of the additional money will be given to others in need in WNC to help fund relief efforts because we know many more sadly who need help too!

To everyone who has lost loved ones, your homes and more – I am so very sorry. We are praying for each and every one of you. The wonderful thing about WNC is that it is a community who truly cares about those around them and I am confident we will rebuild together. Sending so much love and prayer! THANK YOU for your consideration and for SHARING this with others too.

Sincerely & With Gratitude,
Melanie Sutton Snare

Below is a photo of Mamaw and Papaw. If you are from Waynesville, you most likely saw them standing on their little front porch as pictured here and you would blow the horn and they would wave. They didn't always know who everyone was - just that they must know one of their kids or grandkids or great-grandkids. They LOVED waving at all of you!!! They were truly the BEST! And now we just want to help my Aunt & Uncle get back to being able to call this awesome spot home again too!

Below you will see photos of the Frog Level area including Smathers Street which is where my Uncle lives for perspective as we don't have many photos from the home due to lack of cell phone communications. It's all so heartbreaking. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and for helping spread this to as many people as possible.
