Terry Fiedler's Alzheimer's Fund

This isTerry Fiedler! He is the face of Alzheimer's disease and is also my amazing father! He was a pillar of his community and donated so much time and love to everyone around him! He was loved by so many beyond his family. Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in his late 60's when he was entering the prime of his life. This vicious disease has taken everything from him: His passion for life, love, compassion, hysterical sense of humor, gentleness and thoughtfulness. All that is left is a shell of a man.They say Alzheimer's is exceptionally cruel because it leaves families to pick up the pieces and figure out how to care for the loved one disappearing before their eyes. The unimaginable choices families are forced to make in order to care for loved ones leaves them devastated.

My dad has been robbed of everything and now the cost of caring for him has drained his finances dry! If anyone knows my family they know we don't ask for help, and always find a way to fight a battle, but unfortunately we've met our match with Alzheimer's disease. The cost to care for him currently exceeds $7,000/month. It may not seem like a lot to some, but it adds up very quickly. We've been blessed because long term care insurance and residual income has covered the cost for the past 4 years but now that is all gone. We aren't looking for miracles we just want to allow dad to continue to fight his battle with dignity and grace. We are devastated at the thought of having to place him in a facility where he'll receive sub-par care (at best) after everything he's done for others.... he deserves better! On top of that, Many places are refusing to accept him because he is in a transition phase with the disease leaving the family in a very difficult situation. Our hope is to to keep him where he's at until his transition to the final stage Alzheimer's is complete, at which point he'd qualify to enter a skilled faculty for the remainder of his life.
