It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the sudden passing of our neighbour, Terry Wu. At age 38, Terry passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023. He leaves behind his loving wife, Mami, his son Anthony (3) and daughter Olivia(1). Mami has family in both her home country and his, but no relatives living in Canada, the place where they first met and where they have made a loving home.
On that tragic day in December, Terry was holding his daughter when he suddenly collapsed. Mami desperately called 911 as he lost consciousness. First responders raced him to Richmond Hospital for medical care. By the time Mami arrived at Richmond General it was too late. Terry was ventilated and had no brain function. Mami and her children said a final good-bye at his bedside. He was a young, kind, caring man – gone too soon.
Since his passing, Mami’s days have been a blur of grief and bewildering administrative tasks in an unfamiliar system.
They are blessed by neighbors and friends who bring warm food, emotional support, and much-needed comfort during this difficult transition. These acts of kindness have reassured them they are valued members of this community. She is very grateful for all the help she has received as she now struggles alone to provide for Anthony and Olivia while figuring out the lengthy legal processes. Though their extended families are overseas, Terry loved this country, wanted to raise his children here and Mami hopes to find a way for them to remain and go on with their lives here.
For the children and Mami, losing their dad and husband has left huge heartache. The road ahead seems so long and challenging without him. His children have lost the doting and caring father who they adored, and Mami has lost her loving husband, closest confidant, and her best friend in life.
If you would like to support Mami and her children during this difficult, challenging time, please donate – every bit will help.
We thank you in advance and feel so fortunate for the love and kindness that people have shared since his passing.
They will honor his life and keep his spirit alive with memories of the love and joy he had for this community!
