Terry Sayring

Dear family and friends of Terry Sayring,

My name is Tracy Sayring Granoff; I am Terry’s daughter.  As most of you know, my dad was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in June 2018.  He underwent chemotherapy and radiation for a grueling 2 months.  After a year of trying to regain his strength, further testing showed that in October 2019, the cancer had come back along with ulcers in his stomach and throat.

My dad has always been our hero…a proud marine, athlete, provider, husband (58 years), dad, grandpa and great grandpa.  The span of his career as a businessman, mentor and in the sport of water polo has been nothing short of admirable!  My dad has been a referee on the national, international and NCAA championship levels.  He was the manager of the 1980 and 1984 Olympic water polo teams and the water polo competition manager for the 1996 Atlanta Games.  He is a member of the water polo Hall of Fame, a U.S. Water Polo Award recipient, and was awarded the FINA Silver Pin.  He was also a FINA Cup Tournament Director and an ASUA Technical Committee member.  He is the Founder of the American Water Polo Collections, an organization dedicated to preserving the history of water polo from 1880 to present with over 1,000 items collected so far.

Terry is taking a “chemo pill” in the hopes of keeping the cancer at bay.  However, the doctor said that it could be a year before the cancer takes over.  We don’t know for sure, and neither does  the doctor.  We are hopeful and prayerful that he has a comfortable end of life stage and will exceed the doctor’s expectations.  He also has arthritis in his knees and hips and is taking pain pills.  As a result of the cancer, arthritis and medication, he has had a loss of income, and, at the same time, an increase in medication expenses.  Each day is a challenge.

I am asking for your consideration toward any financial support you might be able to give.  Words of encouragement to my dad are also highly valued and appreciated.  Please pass on this information to anyone that you think knows my dad.
