Help Terry Lucas Pay For Assisted Living

Many of you may know of Terry Lucas, a longtime Meher Baba follower, who for many decades helped children with special needs during her years as a school psychologist. Terry, who Bhauji affectionately called “doctor-sister number 1” needs our help!

Since retiring, and especially over the past several years, Terry’s health has declined gradually. Due to limited retirement funds, she was unable to obtain additional support for basic household care or assistance with her health. Covid times made it even more difficult and she rarely left her home. In December, her vision started to be affected and she began having more and more falls. Eventually, she was taken to the hospital and examinations found that she had suffered a stroke. She was subsequently taken to a nursing home (Sunnyside Nursing and Rehab care in Torrance Ca), where she continues to receive physical and occupational therapy. She will be discharged in another week.

Terry is slowly regaining her balance and is now walking with assistance and use of a walker. Thankfully, Terry’s cognition and memory are intact and she is able to communicate easily. At this time, she continues to need a great deal of support to care for her basic needs as well as continued treatment. Terry doesn't have enough funds to hire a caregiver and her housing situation is in bad condition. She has no family members to help or anyone who can offer to support on a daily basis.

So, that's where we come in to help her get into an assisted living care facility (Sorrento Assisted Living), even on a short-term basis until more can be figured out. Terry will likely need other help too (such as house repairs/maintenance etc.) once she improves. Our goal is to raise an initial $8,000, which will cover her immediate expenses, especially for the first two months of Terry's assisted living costs. She does have some very limited retirement funds that will hopefully cover her future expenses, but she needs help now to get things moving along and make this major transition for her.
