Terry Lawrence Memorial Fund
Hello, My name is Claudia and I am the niece of Terry Lawrence. I originally set this GFM up on behalf of my uncle when he took a turn for the worse and was admitted into the hospital on November 5th, 2021. Since his passing on November 14th, 2021 I have converted his GFM into the "Terry Lawrence Memorial Fund" due to the fact that his family is still in dire need of any prayers and assistance that they can receive.
Terry was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in October 2018. The treatment plan was going well and he was able to continue his normal everyday tasks that he enjoyed doing. In February 2021, The doctor adjusted his treatment plan by taking him off of the injections and putting him on medication but said things were still going well. In April and May of 2021, My uncle got the "Moderna" Covid Vaccine. We were concerned about the impact it would have with his medication, So I contacted his doctor as well as the pharmacy to get as much information as I possibly could. We were told that the vaccine should not have any impact or adverse reaction to the medication that he was put on. However, We were told that over time, He may experience side effects from the medication itself. At the end of August 2021 - Beginning of September, 2021, He started experiencing symptoms consistent with what we were told he may begin to experience the longer he took the medication. We immediately contacted the doctor's office and were made to believe that the symptoms were because of the medication itself and were told that if the symptoms got worse between then and his next doctor's appointment to let them know. In October 2021, His symptoms became worse and not consistent with the known symptoms of the medication so we took him to the hospital to get checked out as well as got him into his doctor's office. His doctor began conducting testing and in doing so, found a mass that couldn't be identified without doing a biopsy. So a biopsy was done and when he went for his follow-up appointment a few days later, The doctor said that the pathology was not fully completed at that time. All they did know was that it was cancer, they just couldn't determine the type. On November 5th, 2021, He had another doctor's appointment with more testing done. A few hours after he got home from his appointment, The doctor called and told us to bring him back to the hospital immediately to begin treatment for renal failure. While in the hospital, they continued to run more and more tests with the plan of working out a new treatment plan and were told that he would have a hard battle ahead of him. Five days later on November 10th, 2021, The doctor treating him at the hospital gave the news to his younger brother that the cancer had spread rapidly throughout his body and that there was no other treatments they could do for him. So his younger brother told the doctor to put him on comfort care and to arrange for his IV's to be taken away and put him on the Morphine drip, which knocked him unresponsive. Which was one of the main things he didn't want to happen. He wanted to be able to stay alert to the end. He was moved to the Hospice House the afternoon of November 12th, 2021. On November 14th, 2021 at around 12:45 AM he passed away.
Terry was never the type of person to ask for help and if by slim chance he did ask for help, He would always work hard to repay no matter how long it took him. He was always a hardworking man who paid his own way pushing through any struggle or obstacle that came his way no matter how sick he was. He never wanted to be a burden to anyone. Everyone who knew him, knows that he was a kind, caring and compassionate man. He would always help others no matter what and never asked for anything in return. When I spoke with my uncle just hours before he was rushed to the hospital on the 5th of November, he openly admitted he needed help. I mentioned to him about GFM and he gave me permission to set up the fundraiser despite the fact that he doesn't like to ask for help. Even though he tried to stay positive and optimistic throughout, he was staying stressed out over his inability to work, pay his medical bills, prepare for his living and final expenses.
The whole family has been trying our best to help take care of everything in every way that we can with the bulk of it all being put on my shoulders to deal with. It is and has been a constant struggle both emotionally and financially, Especially for me.
You could say that I'm a lot like my uncle in regards to never wanting to be a burden to anyone or asking for help in any way. But in this case, I have no choice but to reach out and ask. Let me now take this time to explain what I've been dealing with and why I am needing to reach out and ask.
I have lived with and took care of my uncle for many years. Shortly before he was rushed into the hospital, the stove quit. In the early morning of the day he was buried, The microwave decided it was going to quit on me as well. Then a couple of weeks later the heat in the home decided it was going to quit. His death certificate had been delayed so I couldn't open up his estate in order to have his accounts closed. On top of all that, I lost my only source of income the moment he passed away and have been diligently trying to find a new job every since all while having to keep all his bills paid on time in order to keep from losing the roof over my head and my only means of transportation. Meanwhile, I've been getting medical bills after medical bills as well as other bills that we were unaware of piling in. So far, The family and I have been successful with making sure his bills have been paid on time. However, Now is the time, the family and I truly need more help and prayers.
After contacting the Governor's office in order to get assistance in finding out what the hold up was on my uncle's death certificate, I was finally able to obtain it on January 3rd, 2021. The same day I finally obtained his death certificate, We learned of even more expenses that we were not aware of or expecting and we have to have it all by January 20th, 2021. We all are so over-extended that we can't even borrow the money from the bank and we are in dire need of help and prayers.
The family and I are truly grateful and appreciative for all the help we have received for his funeral/burial expenses. Without the gracious help that we received through here, We would not have been able to get it done in a timely manner. No words can truly describe just how grateful and appreciative we are for that.
I truly hate needing to reach out and ask for help on behalf of the family and I, but we have no other options available to us at this time. On behalf of the family and I, Any help no matter how small would be greatly appreciated. All funds donated will be going strictly towards his final living and medical expenses. Even if you aren't able to help financially, All prayers would be welcomed as well.
Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read our cause and for any help that you may be able to give.
God Bless,
Claudia
