Terri's Wheelchair- A Better Life

Our dear friend, Terri Nida, is quadriplegic and needs our help purchasing a new wheelchair. We know this is a large sum of money, but we are seeking $25,000 for a specific wheelchair that will meet her unique physical needs. Her wheelchair requires a “halo” that allows her to drive with head motions rather than using her hands (her arms are completely paralyzed). She also needs a wheelchair that can tilt backward, and with a special cushion, to avoid pressure sores. These are just a few of the needs for the chair. Unfortunately, Terri’s insurance will not cover the cost of a wheelchair for her since she is living in a care facility.
For her long and short-term health, this new chair is needed as soon as possible. We want to raise the money by February 28, 2018.
Terri’s wheelchair gives her great independence to wheel around the facility where she lives, to visit with other residents (including her father), to go outside in the sunshine, to drive into her wheelchair van to go out for a meal, church, or a movie with friends and family. It allows her to pull up perfectly in front of her laptop to read, communicate with the world by Facebook or email, and to write her blog (https://diaryofaquadriplegic.com/).
Her current wheelchair is not positioning her body properly and has left her with a crooked neck and spine. Her neck pain can be excruciating. This new, more modern wheelchair will reposition her body and help straighten it. It should alleviate her neck pain. Most importantly, it will help prevent Terri from becoming completely bed-bound and a victim of severe spinal atrophy.
As many of you know, Terri’s accident occurred four years ago when she fainted in her kitchen and woke up paralyzed from the shoulders down. She is quadriplegic and is dependent on assistance from others to perform simple daily tasks that you and I take for granted, such as brushing her hair, feeding herself, rolling over in bed, or even scratching her nose.
