Hello my name is Terri Mitchum and I need your help. Here is my story. In 2009, I was diagnosed with anaplastic T-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma , a blood cancer. At the time I was going to school full-time and working full-time at a hospital and the diagnosis devastated me. I had to have a stem cell transplant but the good news was I was able to donate steam cells to myself because I did not have any cancer in my bone marrow. The stem cell transplant happened in 2010 after several rounds of chemotherapy. I was off work for over a year and in August 2011 I was able to return to work but not at The same job. After I became a cancer patient, I found it difficult for me to return to a hospital setting. I was able to find another job and work and administrative support for a dialysis clinic. Unfortunately, I relapsed six months later. I had to have several more rounds of chemo therapy and 25 rounds of radiation over the next couple of years however, the cancer continued to come back. During this same time my doctor informed me that I had to find a donor. My first choice for a donor was my twin brother but unfortunately he was unable to do so due to health issues of his own. An anonymous donor was the only option left. I was put on the registry and A donor was soon found, but was not available until the following year. Approximately 10 months later as I was getting prepared for my stem cell transplant I was notified that the donor would not be available because that donor had health issues also. I was devastated once again. As I continued to take chemotherapy and trust that a donor would be found in time, side effects began to emerge. The side effects were and still are chronic fatigue, all over body pain, and neuropathy , which is numbness
and tingling in my hands and my feet. Sometimes I walk as though I am marching because I cannot tell whether or not my feet are hitting the ground. I also have periods where I slip and fall sometimes because my legs give out. Because of the chemotherapy and radiation side effects I eventually was forced to stop working again. I have now exhausted all known available resources and I am appealing to you as a last resort. I need to raise $13,000 to pay my rent for a year so that I can have the stem cell transplant and not face eviction afterwards. A donor has been found , The insurance approval nightmare is complete, and the transplant is scheduled for May 14,2015. Following the transplant hospitalization., The length which is determined by my medical condition, I must have daily clinic treatment for 100 days in addition to 24 hour care. The "best case scenario "projected recovery period is one year. My plan is to return to work following my recovery because I am looking forward to living a normal life again. It has been almost 6 years since my diagnosis and it has been very difficult not being able to support myself for the last two long, emotionally terrifying, financially and physically difficult years. Anything you can do to help me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
