Terri is my sister. As a single mother, Terri supported and raised her family on a server's income. She has worked at Blue Moon Diner for many years offering hospitality, friendship, and a joyful smile to her customers. Terri has become "family" to many of them.
About ten years ago Terri went to the doctor with abdominal pain and rectal bleeding. She was diagnosed with diverticulitis. Managing this painful disease has been difficult, and Terri has suffered several flare ups. The last one, in mid September, perforated her colon. She was hospitalized for four days. Since then, she has been on a liquid diet, and a high dose of antibiotics to get the resulting infection under control. She suffers significant pain daily. She has not been well enough to work since her hospitalization. Terri faces an expensive surgery to repair her colon.
Though she has loved serving people at Blue Moon Diner, her position there did not offer health insurance, and Terri is unable to afford coverage. Her current medical bills exceed $16,000.00.
