I'm a 58 yr. old single mom of a 16 yr. old daughter, Sam. This Go-Fund-Me page is for Sam, not me. In January 2018, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. On February 1st, I had robotic surgery to see if I could have a hysterectomy and end the night mare I am in now. They found lymph nodes outside the realm of the hysterectomy so I could not have it done. I started chemo and radiation in March. In April I had 2 weeks of internal radiation of the cervix. In August I had a pet scan and no cancer was seen. I was ecstatic thinking I was cautiously home free.
In January of 2019, I started getting pain in my stomach and pelvis. It was mild at first but quickly became worse and unbearable. I told my oncologist who told me it was normal pain from everything I had been through. The pain continued to get worse. I told my urologist, my palliative doctors, nurse practitioners, RNs, anyone I saw at the cancer center. I'm June 2019, my oncologist finally ran a pet scan and the worst night mare of all became a reality. The cancer had metastasized to the lining of my stomach, and my liver. The 2 tumors in my liver were terminal with a prognosis of 12 months. I immediately started chemo again that will continue for the rest of my life as long as my body could handle it.
I am grateful to my brother and sister-in-law who took us in and let us live with them in August while my disease was getting worse. I don't know how we would have lived alone and me take care of Sam on my own. They have helped us anyway they can. I am literally fighting for my life and will keep going to treatment as long as my body allows until my last breathe. I will do anything to stay on this earth to be with my daughter. We have a very small family and although Sam has reached out to the few, nobody besides her aunt and uncle, and a very close friend I grew up with, Mike Appleton has been there for her. She is going to have a very hard time at 16 or when I pass to live without me. I Pray for more time!
Mike has been by our side from day 1. He lives 2 hours away from us and before the pandemic drove down to see us and take us out, take us away for weekends and came and picked Sam up and take her for the day when I got to sick to go with them. It got her out of the house and gave her a break from sitting here watching me get sicker. Sam looks up to him like a father. Ive known Mike since we were kids and he will be her beneficiary, I thank God for him everyday. He will look out for her and her future. The money raised from Go-Fund-Me will go to Sam for college or any type of schooling she decides to pursue. The money will also go to start her new life without me. As heartbroken as she will be, I have to look out for her future anyway I can. This platform is the best way I can go for her. I fully believe in GFM and know it has helped millions of people in their time of need.
She had to grown up quicker than most teenagers. Teenage years for a girl is a time she should be enjoying her life, instead she has been helping take care of me. All while going to school keeping her interest in sports (softball) and spending some time with her friends. She's never complained of missing out on anything she could have been doing with her friends. She's been thinking ahead of what she wants to do with her life. I don't even know how she can focus as she watches me get sicker and sicker. It's heartbreaking. Her schoolwork has been suffering as a consequence of everything she is going through. We spend as much time as we can together. As I said besides schooling She will need a reliable vehicle in the future, and an apartment of her own. A new start in life. Its very sad.
As you know, things today are very expensive and I will not be here to help her. She's going to be struggling with grief for years to come but at the same time her life must go on. She will need as much help financially as she can get. I want her to succeed. Life is going to be very hard for her. We are very close.
We talk about everything and we always have, especially since we spend as much time together as we can. Any donations, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated. I can R.I.P. knowing she will have financial means to keep moving forward. Please help her in this next phase in her life. Thank you so much in advance and please share this page. I know things are tight right now with the Pandemic but if you can give anything at all it will greatly be appreciated and go to a good cause! My daughter Samantha! God Bless you all!
