TLDR: terminal cancer patient was robbed of $60,000+ by shady contractor while trying to survive treatments, family being left living in an active construction zone.
My name is Mary Holleran-Fields, Im a 36 years young eccentric woman! I am a wife; I just celebrated 11 years with the best human being on the planet, and most supportive partner anyone could have, Mikey(Michelle). I am a proud mother; devoted to my son, Kordell, and his education, relationships, musical talent, sports career, and overall well being. I truly strive to be the best wife and mother that I can be. I also push myself to be a supportive person for all of my family and friends, encouraging my loved ones to come to me in times of need or distress.
My family and I began making our dreams come true last summer in July of 2024! We hired a contractor to build our dream home…A TINY HOUSE!! We’ve been planning on shifting to sustainable living and going tiny for 8 years. We drew up the blue prints, got together all of the design plans, started buying up materials, payed the contractor, and things really got going! We were sooooo excited!
Unfortunately, in October of 2024, I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast caner (diagnosed de novo her+ brca1+ brca2+ lobular) that has spread to my lymph nodes, spine and pelvis. This is a terminal diagnosis, and I was only given 3-5 years to live. This came as a slap in the face. It was an absolute shock to us and has changed our lives in so many ways. I am remaining as positive as possible, regardless of how hopeless this diagnosis may seem.
While KNOWING my life-ruining-diagnosis, our contractor completely ghosted us. He just stopped answering all forms of communication and disappeared, but not before he stole all of our materials and kept all of the money we had already paid him. He ended up stealing over $60,000 in cash and materials from us. Barely doing any work before running off, he left us very little money to build, basically, an entire house. We are doing our best to figure everything out, but it’s honestly been so stressful that I can barely breathe.
We are in the process of attempting to sue him and get as much money as possible back. It’s almost guaranteed we will win the case, which is good. But any attorneys we’ve spoken to have all said it could take several years to receive a settlement. We honestly don’t have years to spare while we wait around to be paid.
I was able to find an amazing human being who has been soooo wonderful and has been DONATING almost all of his free time to help get this project done for us. I’m so happy to call an awesome man like this my dear friend. He is only one man, however, and he’s coming to the build site after doing projects that he is actually being paid for…. so the build is not moving as fast as we need it to.
We have been going to the build site several times a week and attempting to help as much as we can. We are soooo unbelievably grateful for everything he has done! We are so close to being finished and moving in. Only maybe 4 weeks left, which sounds awesome, but we recently found out that we still need over $10,000 for materials and renting equipment to even make our home livable… and we only have $1,600 left in our savings account.
I’ve been arguing with social security since January to be approved for ssi benefits. It has been a literal nightmare! I was truly hoping i could get approved, receive my back pay and finish up our home. As amazing as it would be, it is just not realistic. We can’t continue to live in limbo waiting for something with no end in sight. We need help.
I know how difficult life is for EVERYONE in this economy. I really don’t want to beg for help, but at this point we don’t really have much of a choice. It has been devastating hit after life altering blow to our little family over the last year, and now we truly need our loved ones. Please spread the word for us.
I applaud anyone who has read this entire explanation! Please share this campaign, say a prayer for us, ask your entire congregation to pray for me, reach out to me on Facebook or instagram with any questions, donate, whatever you feel inclined to do. We will be grateful for anything, including yall just reading all of this. If you’re in a position to consider donating to help us during this time of immense struggle, any and all kindness shown to us will be paid forward as soon as possible. We love you all! Thank you!
*UPDATE*
My breast cancer is no longer spreading and my cancer antigens are dropping, so technically my treatments are working! Unfortunately I am suffering terrible side effects of my cancer treatments. I have osteonecrosis of the jaw. This will require surgery and a bone graft to solve the problem. I am terrified of what this all means, but I will do my best to continue with a smile:
We had no choice but to move into the tiny home regardless of the state it was in. We have made the best of a crappy situation, and our family is together. We have been working on as many of the final projects as we can to try and help the contractor. We unfortunately still don’t have the funds to complete our dream home. If you’d rather, I will include a link to our Amazon wishlist for supplies and furniture!
We are so grateful for the continued help, prayers, love and support from everyone!
