I never thought I would be writing this. I am the oldest daughter of my two other siblings. My heart is shattered during this unexpected time. My mom, Teresita Odvina Nazareno, is a dedicated nurse and the most selfless person I have ever known. She passed away unexpectedly after a hard-fought battle in the ICU. She spent her life taking care of others, both inside and outside of work. She was always putting everyone else before herself. She is also the kind of person who would give you the shoes off her feet, even if it meant she had to go without one. She did not like to see anyone struggle or sad and her love for her family knew no limits.

A few weeks ago, my mom became sick after caring for a patient at her work. What started as pneumonia and influenza A quickly became a nightmare. She spent 20 days in the ICU, fighting with everything she had, but her body just couldn't recover. She was only 61 years young—so close to retirement. A milestone she never got to reach.

Now, in the wake of her passing, I am faced with unexpected medical bills and funeral costs, that I never imagined I’d have to handle so soon. More than anything, I want to give my mom the beautiful farewell she deserves. I also want to honor her by throwing her a celebration "farewell & retirement party." This will be a celebration of her life, her sacrifices, and the countless lives she touched as a nurse.
