Teresa Lynné Wesley Survived Kidney Failure — Then She Was Shot Twice in the Face
Teresa Wesley had just been given a second chance at life. Then she was shot twice in the face.
After battling kidney failure, Teresa recently received a kidney transplant — the gift our family had prayed for and the beginning of what was supposed to be a beautiful new chapter in her life.
Then, on September 9, 2026, everything changed.
In a cowardly act of violence by her estranged husband, Teresa’s second chance at life was nearly stolen from her. She was shot twice in the face.
During the attack, Teresa instinctively raised her hand to protect herself, sustaining serious damage to her hand as she desperately tried to shield herself.
She was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.
Teresa survived. But survival has come at an unimaginable cost.
Teresa has permanently lost her right eye and suffered devastating injuries to her face and hand. She has already undergone surgery on her right eye — the first of many procedures she will face.
Her medical journey is only beginning.
Teresa will require additional surgeries, including reconstructive surgery, extensive medical treatment, and a lifetime of physical therapy and rehabilitation as she learns to live with the injuries she sustained.
Just after receiving a new kidney and being given another chance at life, Teresa is once again fighting for that life.
She fought through kidney failure. She endured the uncertainty, fear, and physical toll of needing an organ transplant. She received a new kidney and was finally beginning to move forward.
And now she is being asked to fight all over again.
Teresa’s recovery will not end when she leaves the hospital.
It will continue through surgeries, reconstructive procedures, physical therapy, treatment for the damage to her hand, continued care for her facial injuries, medications, specialist appointments, transportation, emotional healing, and the life-changing adjustment of navigating the world after permanently losing her right eye.
Through all of this, Teresa also remains a recent kidney transplant recipient whose health and transplanted kidney must continue to be carefully protected.
Before this attack, Teresa was already unable to work while battling kidney failure and recovering from her transplant. Now she is facing an entirely new set of permanent injuries and medical challenges that may affect her ability to support herself in the future.
What Teresa’s future will look like — physically, financially, and medically — is something none of us can fully predict today.
We have set a goal of $150,000 because Teresa’s recovery will extend far beyond this hospital stay.
This is not a matter of weeks or months.
The effects of what happened to Teresa will follow her for the rest of her life.
These funds will help support Teresa’s medical and recovery-related needs, reconstructive procedures, rehabilitation and physical therapy, medications, transportation, everyday living expenses, future medical care, and whatever additional resources she may need as she rebuilds her life.
Right now, Teresa should not have to worry about how she is going to pay a bill.
She should not have to worry about how she will support herself while enduring surgery after surgery.
She should not have to worry about the financial burden of learning how to live a completely different life.
Her only job right now should be to heal.
We cannot undo what happened to Teresa.
We cannot give her back September 9.
We cannot restore what was taken from her.
But we can make sure she does not have to fight her way back alone.
Teresa’s father will serve as the beneficiary of this fundraiser and will receive and manage the funds on Teresa’s behalf while she focuses on her recovery.
