Teresa Maschke's fight against Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ed [48]; my wife Teresa [45], was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  Teresa and I have been married for almost 20 years.  We have an 18 year old son who lives with us and is currently attending Palm Beach State College.  We also take care of Teresa’s parents who live with us.  Teresa has been a restaurant manager for the last 19 years and I am a screen printer.

A couple months ago my wife felt a lump on her breast and went in for a mammogram and ultrasound; the results came back negative.  She was told to come back in 3-6 months but the lump was still there and was becoming painful.  She decided to listen to her intuition and get a second opinion.  After another mammogram and ultrasound, they scheduled a biopsy on Dec 1st, 2018.  On Dec 4th, 2 days before her birthday, she got the call that the tests were positive for breast cancer.

Her diagnosis was Stage 1, Grade2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with 100% positive estrogen and progesterone receptors, meaning she will have to take anti estrogen pills for the next 5 years.  Thankfully we caught the cancer at an early stage. She will have to have surgery on January 18th 2019, then radiation a couple months after for 7 weeks [5 days a week.], with the possibility of chemotherapy.  After the tears and the hugs, we realized that these were the cards we were dealt, and now we have to figure out our next steps on this journey.

Those that know Teresa, know that she is very involved with helping others in the community; either by donation, giving her time, or just by being a friend.  One of the first things she did was post her story on Facebook.  Not for sympathy or for her sake, but to warn others to trust their instincts and to remind others to get their checkups.  The response was great as people were getting their checkups.  We realized that cancer doesn’t discriminate, it can happen to anyone.

My wife is a giver, never asking for anything in return, but unfortunately now we need help.  This is something I never thought I would have nor want to do, but with her upcoming surgery , medical bills piling up from 2 mammograms, 2 ultrasounds, an MRI, multiple doctors’ visits [4 different doctors]  gene testing, blood work, upcoming radiation therapy, medication and her missing time from work it has become too much for us to handle. The stress, anxiety and emotions are truly overwhelming even after selling personal items on eBay and online garage sales.   Now we know why others don’t get the treatment that they need.  Believe me, it crossed her mind several times.

If you would like to donate financially to help my wife fight against breast cancer, I would be forever grateful.  All funds raised will go towards the cost associated with her cancer diagnosis, treatment, surgery and recovery.  If any funds raised are left over, we will gladly pay it forward and donate to a local cancer support group.

We are truly blessed and thankful for the support and love we have received from everyone.  We thank you in advance for your prayers, positive thoughts, and well wishes.
