Logline: After getting her tumor removed, an insecure young woman tries to step out of her comfort zone, but her tumor wants things to stay the same.

Hi! We're the team behind Teratoma, and we're in our third and final year at Centennial College's Broadcasting program. Our final capstone project is a 15 minute short film and we've chosen to do a quite interesting and ambitious story; and in order to fulfill all our creative visions, we're asking for your support!

WORDS FROM OUR DIRECTOR
"My name is Grace King and I’m the writer and director of Teratoma. I've already directed a short film called “The Operation”, which received best 4th Semester Film at Centennial College's annual Donny Awards. Teratoma will now be my first time directing my own script, and I am very excited to have this opportunity!

The seed for Teratoma was planted when I watched an episode of Grey’s Anatomy and a character had a teratoma removed. I immediately thought that the concept would be so fitting for a horror film, from there, the pieces slowly started to fall into place. I thought that idea of having a tumour removed, literally having something toxic removed from inside of you, could be made into an non-literal representation of inner turmoil."

SYNOPSIS
When Morgan, an extremely shy young woman has her tumour removed and preserved in a jar, she begins to talk to it out of loneliness. From these conversations, the Teratoma begins to develop a spirit of it’s own. As Morgan grows a desire for a normal life, the Teratoma wants things to stay the same.

ABOUT THE STORY
“Teratoma” is about overcoming internal struggles and the fear of the unknown. Morgan is a character who’s anxieties have prevented her from having a life of her own. She has spent her life locked in her room and only had a relationship with her overbearing mother, Linda. She’s always had a desire to have and do things that the rest of the world does. But the Teratoma, which she has channeled all of her fears into, holds her back out of fear of the new positive things in her life.

PRODUCTION COSTS
As we learned from our previous projects, producing a high-quality short requires a lot of passion and resources, and as students, we're passionate, but low on funds! With your support, your money will go towards:

  • HMU + Wardrobe
  • Set Dressing
  • Props
  • Equipment
  • Locations
  • Transport
  • Craft and Catering
  • Safety Supplies
  • Contingency

NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL
With your support, we can truly bring this project to life! Your contribution will go a long way in letting a group of passionate student filmmakers have their stories be told.

Thank you for joining us on this journey and helping us bring our strange little film to life!
