Hello my name is Julie. I started this Gofundme for my father Teofilo. My father has been struggling with diabetes for majority of his life. Around the age of 40 he stopped taking his insulin all together due to the price. My father was so focused on being the provider he didn’t realize the damage he was causing by stopping his insulin. My father was off his insulin for 5-8 years. After a few years his body started to deteriorate. He had got an ingrown toenail and left it untreated. Pretty soon his toe had swollen up to the point of bursting. After being admitted to the hospital, doctors had to cut off his leg because he had waited so long and the infection had spread. My father was in the hospital for months. Doctors advised my father after he was released to stay on bed rest (out of work) for at least a 1 year 1/2. After being released my father being the hard headed person he is started to go back to work just 5-6 months after being released. At work he would crawl to get from place to place and get lots of scratches on his knees. Then one day he became very Ill. We took him to the hospital only for him to have his other leg amputated due to a open sore he had from crawling. After being released he stayed focus on getting better and remained full of faith. Even though insulin is very high in price his doctors office does provide small samples for free that he uses. Due to the small amount he gets in the samples he only uses the insulin when he feels bad even though he needs it daily. Soon after in the year of 2022, he has begun to lose his eye sight and possibly has kidney and liver failure. Despite all the pain he has suffered my father still tries to provide for his family and is one of the most hardworking men I know. He does flooring, plumping and small repairs in my community for a low price. It’s hard to get clients in when they see the guy working for them has no legs and is crawling but he still manages through all. Even though I am out of the household and help as much as I can bills add up quick. He still has three teens in his care as well. Yes all my siblings are working as well and give my father what they can but they are all in school trying to get there High school diploma also. So any donations would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully we can either get him a prosthetic or some insulin or something that would be useful in anyway.
