Tenant who lost everything- July 29 downtown Montreal fire

Hi, my name is Laurie and I am fundraising for a lovely, newly single 30 year-old woman named Jessica. She had only recently moved into the building and her landlord did not require her to have insurance. Seeing as this is the first time she has ever lived on her own, she didn’t realize that tenants should always get insurance.

She has now lost everything.

The Red Cross has put her in a hotel, but she has no clothes, no food and no idea how to get out of her situation.

She has a lovely Pomeranian named Romeo, who is safe and sound, but for whom The Red Cross will not be providing anything (obviously).

Jessica had just moved to Montreal for a fresh start and gotten a new job. However, due to PTSD (from her relationship with her ex-husband), she had to be put on leave pretty much right away. She is unable to work and is all alone in our city/province.

I met her while at the park with my kids when she helped one of them on the swings. She is the kindest person I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in a long time.

I am the one asking for help as she didn’t even feel right doing it herself, because “other people in the building, especially elderly tenants, are in a worse situation” than her.
