Nantucket bartender Leigh Carroll recovery fund

On Monday the 22nd of April, I took Leigh to the ER on island to get her checked out for a persistent migraine. Less than 24 hours later, she was on the operating table in Boston getting a tumor removed from inside of her skull. The mass was larger than a golf ball, and thankfully all signs point to it being benign. Anyone who has ever been in this situation knows exactly how scared and helpless it feels, and I spent the night alone feeling just that. I can’t even imagine what she was feeling. I got on the first ferry the next morning and was able to be with her an hour or two after she came out of surgery. Other than the first night in the ICU recovery ward, I have not left her side. This means we are both out of work for the time being. We don’t know how long her recovery is going to take, and even though Leigh booked us a ferry reservation the minute she received her cell phone in the recovery room, we are taking the advice of the highly skilled neurosurgeon team at Mass General and taking it day by day. As little as I understand about medical science, I understand my duty to her, and I intend to fulfill my duty, but I am asking for help. I don’t know how long this road is, but even after my shoes fall apart, I will still be walking by her side and taking care of her. We just want to make sure we don’t fall so far behind that we have to leave the island we love prematurely. We can figure out the medical bills on our own. That’s just part of life, but maintaining that life on an island has its challenges. Both our jobs are very supportive of us, and we aren’t in fear of being out of work, but until she feels 100% ready, she can't sacrifice her health, and I won’t leave her. She is my future, and I am fully invested.
