On march 7th around 1am our family was awoken by the sounds of all the fire detectors going off and immediately smelling smoke . After running downstairs seeing flames and thick smoke , I knew it was to late to do anything other then get our family out of the house as fast and safe as possible , which most importantly we did . The VBFD responded quickly and was able to put it out within an hour . However we have been left temporarily displaced until further notice as the home is currently not livable and all of our belongings are currently damaged by smoke . Yes, we have an emergency fund (but I was never prepared for something of this magnitude to happen) . Yes, we have insurance and are in communication with them as we speak . However with me being out of work dealing with current situation, the loss of wages, insurance deductibles, temporary housing , maintaining a business , bills , keeping kids in school , losses from the fire etc. Is going to add up quickly . If anybody knows me I would give you the shirt off my back and shoes off my feet . I’ve always helped others every chance I could . I’ve swallowed my pride on this one , and for the first time I’m asking for help . I’ve never left my kids sides in 18 years and our family is currently spread out with family and friends . Our goal is to stay in an Airbnb/hotel or something in the same school district to keep us together and have our daily routines back to somewhat normal while we sort out, what happened and what’s next . Things can be replaced and rebuilt ,but your loved ones can’t be. We’re thankful no one was hurt physically only emotionally which is expected. If you can help, My family and I will be forever grateful for any amount of donations. Thank you from all of us in advance .
