On May 2nd, one of the most important fights in modern boxing takes place in Japan: Naoya Inoue vs Junto Nakatani.
This isn’t just a big fight. It’s a cultural moment for Japanese boxing — and possibly a generational turning point.
I don’t want to cover it from my bedroom.
I want to be there.
My name is A Guy Called Henry. Over the past year or so, I’ve built a boxing channel focused on storytelling, tactics, and depth. The response has been incredible. Thousands of you have supported the channel because you care about boxing as more than just headlines.
Now I want to take that to the next level.
I’m teaming up with Matt Martin — an Australian filmmaker with real experience producing sports documentaries — to create a cinematic, on-the-ground documentary in Tokyo around Inoue vs Nakatani.
The goal is simple:
To capture the magic of Japanese boxing properly.
Not just the fight night — but the city, the atmosphere, the gyms, the fans, the culture, and what this moment actually means.
What This Documentary Will Be
This won’t be a quick YouTube vlog.
It will blend:
• On-the-ground immersion in the style of Louis Theroux — me in front of the camera, meeting people, exploring Tokyo, asking questions, finding stories
• High-end cinematic production — shot on premium cameras with professional audio
• Carefully crafted post-production to create something that feels timeless
We want to make something that stands up as a serious boxing documentary — not just content, but a film.
Why We’re Asking for Help -
We’ve set the fundraising target to cover our base costs only:
Flights
Accommodation
Equipment transport
Local travel
Production essentials
Food
The goal isn’t to profit from this fundraiser.
It’s simply to make sure we can be there without losing money.
If we exceed the target, that extra funding goes directly into improving the film — more time on the ground, better access, better post-production, and potentially hiring additional local support in Japan.
Why Make It Community Funded?
Because this isn’t just my documentary.
It’s ours.
If you’ve ever said boxing deserves better storytelling…
If you believe Japanese boxing deserves global recognition…
If you want to see independent creators push beyond bedroom analysis…
This is how we do it.
No broadcaster.
No corporate filter.
Just us — and the story.
If you donate, you’re not just paying for a flight.
You’re helping create a film about one of the most important fights in modern boxing history.
And when it’s finished, you’ll know you helped make it happen.
Thank you for supporting independent boxing storytelling.
Henry
