La Milpa: Food for the people of Honduras

Tax deductible
Hunger and food insecurity is now rampant across Honduras. LA MILPA is a campaign, run by a group of non-profits in Honduras, to aid the Honduran people in regaining food sovereignty and re-igniting ancestral traditions of planting, growing, and consuming organic food.

This GoFundMe campaign is raising funds to tell the story of LA MILPA, to both raise awareness of the Honduran people's struggle, and specifically to be used as a fundraising tool for the La Milpa campaign.

In collaboration with Radio Progreso in Honduras and the SHARE Foundation and iNation Media in the U.S., these funds will enable Award-winning filmmaker Theo Rigby and his team at iNation Media to travel to Honduras, film the powerful story of LA MILPA, then edit the video and deliver it to the Honduran organizations creating LA MILPA.

LA MILPA is building the capacity for individuals to grow their own healthy, sustainable, and life-saving food.  Over the course of decades of corruption, two devastating hurricanes, and the COVID pandemic, many Hondurans cannot afford food for their families.

While hunger is a huge problem in Honduras,  LA MILPA is a community-based solution to provide organic food, and empower communities with food sovereignty, and hope for a brighter future.

We rarely hear about WHY hundreds of people are leaving Honduras every day, on foot, to a dangerous and uncertain journey northward.

This short film about LA MILPA will dig into the layered root causes that are creating food scarcity among the Honduran people.  In the film, we will hear from key organizers of LA MILPA working in Honduras, see the terrain and the scope of the LA MILPA campaign, and meet some of the local farmers who are beginning to grow their own crops on their own land.

This film will be used by Radio Progreso, SHARE Foundation, and a coalition of Honduran organizations to raise awareness about the LA MILPA campaign and to raise funds for the LA MILPA campaign itself.

Your donation to this campaign through the SHARE Foundation is tax-deductible, and funds raised will go directly towards production costs for award-winning filmmaker Theo Rigby and Sound Recordist Orlando Torres to travel and film in Honduras with a delegation put together by the SHARE El-Salvador Foundation on July 2-July 12.  The funds will also cover a post-production team (Editor, composer, sound mixer) to edit and finish the film by fall 2021.

We are also in need of donations of airline miles to cover the flights for Theo and Orlando (feel free to reach out to [email redacted] directly).
