Hello! My name is Clarence Kevin Ford and my wife Candace and I are the proud owners of Tell Me Something Sweet Bakery in Plano, TX. We have been faced with high food costs and our initial bridge loan to open the bakery has come due, but the time needed to ramp up and gain exposure is taking longer than expected. We are raising funds to keep our doors open and continue to serve the downtown Plano and surrounding areas.
I was born into a family legacy of cooking and baking as a way of showing love and hospitality not only to family members but also to the community. My maternal grandmother, Magnolia Dawson became a wife and mother at the young age of eighteen. She was well known for her southern hospitality, immaculate housekeeping, beautiful table settings, and excellent cooking. She was constantly baking delectable cakes and scrumptious pies to share with others. Over the years she cooked and baked for many, and even opened her doors to feed the hungry during the Great Depression. My grandmother hosted large gatherings and was always known for baking, especially her pound cakes.
Through my mother and my grandmother, I found myself thrown into the beautiful world of baking at a young age. With Magnolia by my side, I baked my first cream cheese pound cake which was a resounding success.
After transitioning from Illinois to Texas in 2014, I found myself wanting to embark on opening a bakery. A place where people could come and enjoy baked home goods like their mother or grandmother used to bake. I wanted a gathering place, a place that felt warm and inviting and served really great pound cakes, dessert bars, cookies, and more.
Well six years later, my wife and I developed Tell Me Something Sweet at the beginning of 2020, tested our recipes at different farmers' markets and various events in 2021, and were blessed to locate a storefront in 2022. We moved in and opened on October 1, 2022, but soon discovered that in order to continue to grow we needed the community, friends, and family to help us raise working capital, which is why we've created this fundraiser.
We want Tell Me Something Sweet Bakery to be a place where we continue the legacy started by my grandmother, where our children will understand the importance of working towards a goal, building something from nothing, and being happy doing it.
