Hello everyone,
My name is Shanakay, and I am writing to you with a heavy heart following the devastating Category 5 hurricane that impacted my parents' home. They reside in White Hall, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica—a small, close-knit community my family has called home for over 40 years. On Tuesday, October 28th, the eye of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa made landfall in the parish, bringing strong winds and heavy rain that unfortunately damaged their house.

This wasn’t just a house. It was the home my parents built with their own hands decades ago a place filled with laughter, Sunday dinners, and the kind of memories that shape who you are. My parents Doreth and Sydney Myrie are now in their late 60s and early 70s, and seeing them lose the home they worked so hard to build has been truly heartbreaking.

The storm completely destroyed most of what they owned. The roof was torn away, the rooms flooded, and nearly all of the furniture and belongings were damaged beyond repair. The walls that once sheltered generations of love and care now stand cracked and soaked.

My mother is self employed. She owns a small resturant and fruits business and also a poultry farm. They were both washed away completely. Her business was flattened and with such her primary source of income was washed away. This is devastating as she will be starting all over again.

We are grateful that they are safe that’s the greatest blessing, but now comes the hard part: rebuilding from what’s left. My parents have always been the ones to give, to open their doors and hearts to others, and now it’s my turn to try and help them rebuild their lives and restore the only home they’ve ever known.

The funds raised will go directly toward repairs, replacing furniture, and helping my parents get back to a sense of normalcy after losing nearly everything.

I am asking kindly for your support. It would means more than words can express. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for standing with us during this painful but hopeful time.

With love and gratitude,
