Tegan's Journey
Donation protected
Tegan began her journey in life, on June 11, 2013, three months earlier than expected. She and her twin sister Tenley decided to surprise their parents, Tim and Sarah and came out weighing four pounds between the two of them. Tegan and Tenley's early start resulted in a total of 97 days staying in three different NICU's. One of their NICU experiences was at BC Children's Hospital (BCCH).
One year ago Tegan and her family found themselves back at BCCH to investigate the hole in her heart that hadn't closed on its own. The team at BCCH was able to close the hole during the investigation process and after a quick recovery at Ronald McDonald House, the family was back home in Kelowna.
On Monday, March 6, 2017, Tim and Sarah took Tegan to see her family doctor. They had noticed she hadn't been herself the last few days, had unusual bruising on her body, discovered two lumps on her neck and small red dots on her body. Tegan was sent for bloodwork and then they went home. A few hours later they got a call from the doctors office requesting Tim and Sarah come in immediately to discuss the bloodwork results.
"Leukemia... She will be transferred to Children's Hospital," is all Sarah can recall the doctor saying. Tegan went straight to Kelowna General Hospital for more blood work while Sarah went home to pack. A short time later Sarah and Tegan were in the ambulance being urgently transported to BCCH. The transport took most of the night to get to Vancouver. They arrived exhausted but the team at BCCH wasted no time. Tegan had multiple tests and procedures and received her first dose of chemotherapy Tuesday, March 7.
The treatment plan for Tegan will take a total of three years to complete. This Go Fund Me page has been created in hopes of relieving some of the financial burden that will be accrued over the next three years. The family home is in Kelowna, so the money raised will be used for travel expenses to go back and forth between Kelowna and Vancouver, food and missed work, so the family can be together. Any remaining funds will be directly donated to BCCH.
Thank you so much, please keep Tegan and her family in your thoughts and prayers!
