We need your help in an emergency fundraising appeal to ensure those most at risk of falling behind in home-schooling can stay in the virtual classroom.
The Cash For Connectivity campaign aims to raise £1.2million to purchase internet-enabled dongles for those who need one - both on Teesside and across the North of England.
Your money will help 100,000 households from Crewe to Berwick-upon-Tweed, to Carlisle to Scunthorpe and everywhere in between.
Media outlets, politicians, businesses and many more organisations in the North are uniting behind this crucial cause. Staying home and staying safe shouldn’t mean you’re not connected.
There is a digital divide on Teesside - many families who already face rising household costs for food and heating as children stay at home, are struggling to also find the money for broadband.
And we’ve revealed how many in poorer parts of our region pay more to educate their child, because of data charges on mobile phones.
Councils, charities and businesses across Teesside have done an incredible job in stepping up and providing families with the laptops or tablets children need to continue their education.
But according to analysis of ONS and Ofcom figures, as many as 55,000 households in the North-east don’t have an internet connection.
