“You don't choose the game, it chooses you."- Seven Days in Utopia.
On April 7th, 1994, I attended the masters with my grandfather (Pop), the man who taught me all I know, and introduced me the greatest game ever. I was hooked. Though I played and excelled at many other sports, they all paled in comparison. Golf was a sport that held my attention, and I knew it would be something I would want to make a career of in the future.
For the past ten years I have worked in the golf business in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina- spending the first two at Pawley’s Plantation Golf and Country Club and subsequently working in a retail golf shop for the last eight years. Because these positions allowed me the flexibility to travel and hone my skills, I’ve built an extensive amateur resume. This past year, while working full time, I was able to save enough money to send myself to web.com Q school, but missed the cut by 3 shots in the prequalifer.
Ultimately, with the encouragement of my grandfather, I came to the realization that I would need to devote myself to the game 100% in order to achieve my life goal of playing on the PGA Tour. With my grandfather’s blessing I started on my journey, but shortly thereafter, on September 9, 2015, I lost the man that was my mentor and best friend. I am grateful for the opportunity to discuss my path with him and receive his blessing before his passing.
While I’ve balanced a lot in the past, this coming year presents the greatest challenge as I make sacrifices to devote myself to the full-time pursuit of my dream- a career in golf. I plan to play on the West Florida golf tour all winter in preparation for the PGA tour Canada qualifier in April. The funding I raise will help support me in Florida this winter and continue through next September's Q school. Costs I will incur for the next year will be travel expenses, tournament fees, etc.
I am grateful for your interest in my story and for any support you may give. Please feel free to contact me directly through the site or via email; I’m glad to discuss my journey with you. Thanks again, and God Bless.
