Teenage Chili’s Hostess attacked by 13 women

Kelsy,  is my 17-year old daughter.  She is an honor and dually-enrolled high senior at Broadmoor High and Career & Technical Education.  She is a licensed emergency medical responder with aspirations of becoming a medical doctor.  She has a 4.250 overall grade point average and is looking forward to attending Xavier University as freshmen next fall majoring in Pre-Med.

Just recently, her passion to purse a medical career has afforded her an opportunity to be selected by the Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center (SWLAHEC) as a student participant with Day with the Docs, which is a partnership pipeline program designed to give students who are serious about becoming physicians a chance to see what life is like as a medical student and get an up-close look at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine.

She recently started working at Chili’s in June to help working parents pay for her high school expenses and saving for college.  On August 9, 2020, Kelsy was working at Chili’s as a hostess when she was physically attacked by 13 women due to her enforcement of COVID-19 restrictions established by her employer.  She sought medical attention for the laceration above her eye that required stitches.  She has suffered a significant amount of hair loss since her attackers forcibly pulled out a fist size of her hair and broken finger nails.  She still have nightmares and is afraid to be alone.  Her attackers have not been apprehended. Kelsy is afraid to return to her job as a hostess as a result of this attack.

The local police department police report only cited the incident as a misdemeanor, which limits the investigation and essentially allowing her attackers to get away with a horrific crime against a child.
Chili’s headquarters and the local police weren’t responsive to her family’s initial attempt to get more information and hold her attackers accountable.

Therefore, they sought assistance from the local media.  As you would imagine, her story has appealed to the greater good and a few bad actors. The local reporters  that reported her story has received a lot of feedback from the community asking how to provide a financial contribution to Kelsy.  We setup this page to provide a consolidated experience for the community to help Kelsy’s future endeavors.

Our family couldn’t have imagine the overflowing community support that Kelsy has received.  We sincerely thank you for your financial support but more than anything the outpouring of love and prayers that you’ve shown Kelsy.  The donations collected will help me secured a safer housing for Kelsy and her 13 year old brother, augment her high school and college fees .  We currently reside in the community with her attackers and have received several threats from associates of the attackers.

Thank you,

Keisha Nelson
